Ukraine destroys Russian drone unit after Kherson infant killed, child 'should never have been a target,' governor says
KHERSON OBLAST, UKRAINE, JUL 13 – Ukrainian forces used five FPV drones to kill the Russian drone crew responsible for a kamikaze attack that killed a child and injured his grandmother, General Staff said.
- On July 12, 2025, Ukrainian forces carried out a targeted strike in the Kherson region, eliminating a Russian FPV-drone operator unit linked to a fatal attack.
- The strike followed a Russian Molniya kamikaze drone attack on July 9 that killed one-year-old Dmytryk in the village of Pravdyne and injured his grandmother.
- Ukrainian intelligence identified a five-story vacant building in occupied Hola Prystan as the launch site for enemy drones, from which Russian forces sent out five FPV drones in four successive waves.
- Four of the five FPV drones deployed by the Ukrainian military accurately struck the target, with no additional launches detected from the site afterward; Governor Oleksandr Prokudin emphasized that Dmytro was not an appropriate target and expressed gratitude to the soldiers for their response.
- The operation demonstrated Ukraine’s resolve to punish occupiers, as the destroyed drone crew were linked to attacks deemed crimes against humanity by a UN commission.

"Dmytro should never have been a target. I thank our soldiers for their just retribution. No occupier who brought death and destruction to our land will escape punishment," Kherson Oblast Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced today that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have probably destroyed the Russian drone operators who were involved in the murder of a one-year-old child in the village of Pravdyne, Kherson region.
On Wednesday 9 July, a Russian drone attack killed a Ukrainian child of 1 year while he was playing with his grandmother in the garden. The authorities denounce "a human safari zone".
