Meerut Administration Ensures Food Joints Along Kanwar Yatra Route Display Essential Information
- The Meerut district authorities have required all eateries on the Kanwar Yatra path to prominently show their menu and prices outside to promote transparency and protect pilgrims from excessive charges.
- This directive is part of the Uttarakhand government’s wider initiative to ensure food safety during the upcoming Kanwar Yatra beginning July 11, when pilgrims gather sacred water from various locations along the Ganges River.
- Dedicated food safety inspection units have been established in five Uttarakhand districts—Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Uttarkashi—to frequently gather products such as milk, sweets, oils, spices, and drinks from various pandals and forward them for laboratory analysis.
- Additional Commissioner Tajbar Singh Jaggi emphasized that establishments failing to pass sample tests will be shut down without delay, while Health Secretary Rajesh Kumar mentioned that violations could lead to penalties of up to Rs 2 lakh under the Food Safety Act of 2006.
- These measures emphasize no compromise on food quality for devotees and signal strict enforcement against adulteration and tampering to ensure safe food during the pilgrimage.
