UK weather: Heavy rain and flooding to hit parts of UK as new warning issued
Persistent heavy rain of 20–70mm widely, and over 200mm in amber zones, may cause flooding, travel disruption, and power cuts, warns the Met Office.
- On Sunday, the Met Office issued yellow national warnings for heavy rain across the West Midlands, Yorkshire, North West England, West Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of North Wales.
- Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna said a slow-moving band of rain is producing prolonged downpours, and the Met Office warned saturated ground raises the likelihood of impacts.
- Amber warnings show parts of Cumbria could get more than 200mm over 48 hours, with over 150mm widely and 360.6mm recorded at Honister Pass; 50 to 80mm is expected widely in south Wales on Monday.
- TransPennine Express and Northern advised commuters to check travel plans and avoid Cumbria, as Environment Agency teams respond and Floods minister Emma Hardy said she is in continual contact.
- A yellow warning remains into Tuesday's early hours for some areas, with Wednesday's warning covering south Wales, south‑west England, and parts of the West Midlands, as conditions turn wet and windy into Thursday.
