UK to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine as part of $996 million package
The package is funded by frozen Russian assets and is meant to help Ukraine defend civilians from missile and drone attacks.
- Defence Secretary Jarvis announced the United Kingdom will deliver 150,000 Ukrainian-produced drones by year-end and more than 350 air-defence missiles by 2026, funded by a £2.26 billion loan backed by frozen Russian assets.
- The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, confirmed the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration loan employs proceeds from immobilized Russian sovereign assets, allowing Moscow's own capital to fund Ukraine's defence and relieve pressure on British taxpayers.
- During his first NATO Defence Ministers meeting, Jarvis co-chaired the Ukraine Defence Contact Group alongside German counterpart Boris Pistorius and met President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the United Kingdom's unwavering support.
- Jarvis also agreed with Germany and Norway to strengthen anti-submarine warfare cooperation in the High North and Atlantic, addressing growing concerns over Russian submarine activity threatening NATO's northern flank.
- Next month, Major General Tom Bateman will assume command of the Multinational Force for Ukraine headquarters as a Lieutenant General, overseeing long-term planning for regeneration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
