The UK revoked fast-track visas for DRC nationals after its failure to cooperate on migrant returns, while Angola and Namibia agreed to repatriate thousands, marking initial asylum reform progress.
- The UK Home Office revoked fast-track processing and stripped VIP privileges for Democratic Republic of Congo nationals, welcoming Angola and Namibia's agreement to take back illegal migrants and criminals.
- With the DRC judged to have failed to meet standards, the Home Office said `We expect countries to play by the rules. If one of their citizens has no right to be here, they must take them back`,
- Since July 2024 the Home Office reported a surge in removals with nearly 50,000 people with no right to be in the UK deported, a 23% increase, and over 7,000 foreign national offenders returned.
- The home secretary said the current steps are only the beginning of tougher border measures, warning, `This is just the start of the measures I am taking to secure our border and ramp up the removal of those with no right to be here.`
- The Home Office said Angola and Namibia have met the gold standard by agreeing to take back nationals, praising their role in scaling up removal and deportation efforts of illegal migrants.
