Prosecutors to Retry Yung Filly on 3 Rape Charges in Australia
Prosecutors say the jury could not reach verdicts on the three sexual penetration charges, and Barrientos also faces a new cannabis possession count.
On Friday, prosecutors confirmed that British YouTuber Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will face a retrial on three rape charges after a jury failed to reach a verdict on those counts.
During an eight-day trial last month, a District Court jury found Barrientos guilty of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm for bites to the woman's neck and breast, while acquitting him of other sexual assault charges.
Prosecutor Danielle Clarke informed the court on Friday that the complainant is "more than willing to give evidence" in the retrial, while Barrientos's defence lawyer previously argued the accuser's evidence contained "inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies."
Sentencing for the assault convictions remains pending until the retrial concludes, and the 30-year-old faces a fresh charge of possessing cannabis with bail set at 100,000 Australian dollars.
Barrientos, who remains on bail, will return to court next week to address an application to vary his bail conditions, though a firm date for the District Court retrial has not been set.
