UK homebuilder Crest Nicholson warns of annual loss
Crest Nicholson cut home completion guidance to 1,350-1,400 and now expects a £10 million EBIT loss as weaker demand and pricing pressure hit sales.
- Crest Nicholson warned yesterday of a surprise EBIT loss of around £10 million, lowering expected home completions to between 1,350 and 1,400 from prior guidance of 1,400 to 1,500.
- Sales rates slowed due to "affordability constraints and competitive pricing," the company cited, as building material prices remain about 3%-4% higher on average.
- This marks the third time Crest Nicholson has reduced earnings guidance since April, following a pre-tax loss of £35.2 million reported for the six months ending spring.
- Despite the earnings downgrade, Crest Nicholson is accelerating debt reduction, cutting previous debt guidance by around £30 million to protect liquidity and improve year-end net debt position.
- Chief executive Martyn Clark said "While the trading backdrop has remained difficult," the group is making progress on controllable actions and positioning for recovery when conditions normalize.
