UK Authorities Arrest 4 People in Probe of Retail Cyberattack Spree
UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 15 – Four suspects aged 17 to 20 were arrested for cyberattacks on major UK retailers that caused operational disruptions and data breaches, according to the National Crime Agency.
- On July 10, UK authorities arrested individuals in homes across West Midlands, London, and Staffordshire, as part of a cyberattack investigation.
- In recent assaults, Scattered Spider linked to coordinated attacks on M&S, Co-op, and Harrods, causing system disruptions and empty shelves.
- Law enforcement detailed charges, seized electronic devices, and a spokesperson for Co-op told Cybersecurity Dive, `Hacking is not a victimless crime`.
- A spokesperson for the National Crime Agency said on Wednesday, 'All four individuals have been bailed pending further inquiries,' highlighting the ongoing investigation. The agency confirmed the probe remains one of its highest priorities.
