Uganda unveils statue of Yoni Netanyahu, 50 years after historic hostage rescue

- Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba led the ceremony, describing Netanyahu as a symbol of "courage, duty and selfless service" while honoring the hostages and Ugandan soldiers killed during the operation.
- Kainerugaba presented the memorial as a testament to "enduring friendship" between Uganda and Israel, emphasizing that modern Uganda is a constitutional democracy committed to international cooperation distinct from Amin's regime.
- Israeli representative Barak Orland described the monument as a testament to two nations standing together for future generations, as both countries pledged to deepen cooperation in security and sustainable development.
