Ubisoft Names Co-CEOs of Spinoff: Christophe Derennes, Charlie Guillemot Talk Plans for ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ ‘Rainbow Six’ and ‘Far Cry’

SEINE-SAINT-DENIS, ÎLE-DE-FRANCE, JUL 16 – The new Tencent-backed subsidiary aims to boost Ubisoft’s top franchises with $1.25 billion in investment and greater autonomy for development teams, co-led by industry veterans.

  • On March 27, Ubisoft announced the new Tencent-backed subsidiary, appointed co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot to oversee the three franchises.
  • Under the deal, Ubisoft created the new subsidiary, partly owned by Tencent after a €1.16 billion investment, announced earlier this year.
  • Both co-CEOs bring extensive backgrounds, Christophe Derennes with over 35 years at Ubisoft and Guillemot as the son of Yves Guillemot, the co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft, and will define strategy and conditions for teams, Ubisoft said.
  • Outside the new subsidiary, The Division and Ghost Recon will continue, Ubisoft noted, and the transaction is expected to close this year.
  • Looking ahead, Charlie Guillemot aims to revolutionize game development and player experiences through generative AI and cloud technologies, with a target to complete by end of 2025.
