UAE Oil Output Hits All-Time High, Doubling Pre-Crisis Levels
The output surpasses the country’s 2020 peak as Abu Dhabi expands exports with extra ships and darkened transponders, the International Energy Agency said.
- On Friday, the International Energy Agency reported that the United Arab Emirates pumped a record 4.1 million barrels of crude oil per day in June, its highest output ever.
- The UAE quit OPEC effective May 1, seeking to pursue national expansion plans unfettered by production restrictions. This allowed Abu Dhabi to aggressively ramp up supply despite ongoing geopolitical instability in the region.
- To bypass the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, the UAE is utilizing "dark" vessels with deactivated transponders, increasingly exporting through the Emirate of Fujairah where the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company operates.
- Rebounding flows combined with global reserve releases have helped erase war-time price spikes; Brent crude eased to below $76 a barrel on Friday while ADNOC commits $55 billion to future infrastructure projects.
- Construction of the West-East 1 Pipeline is expected to become operational next year, aiming to double export capacity through Fujairah and meet global energy demand despite ongoing tensions in the Persian Gulf.
