- On Monday, the United Arab Emirates and India signed a letter of intent in New Delhi to work toward a Strategic Defense Partnership during a two-hour visit by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan with Narendra Modi.
- Defense ties have strengthened recently, marked by Gen. Upendra Dwivedi's official visit to Abu Dhabi earlier this month and joint military exercises in December 2025, amid Saudi Arabia and Pakistan's Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement last September.
- As part of the visit, ADNOC Gas and Hindustan Petroleum agreed to a $3 billion deal for 0.5 million metric tons annually over 10 years starting 2028.
- The leaders set an economic target to double bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2032 after trade surpassed $100 billion under the CEPA, with investments in sectors like space and food, and UAE pledges in Gujarat.
- India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the letter of intent does not imply India will join regional conflicts amid faltering UAE-Saudi relations and Saudi Arabia and Pakistan's Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement last September.
