Tyhee Lake Campground Closed Due to Bear Activity
B.C. Parks said the closures will stay in place for the rest of the season as bear encounters rise near populated areas.
Parks officially closed The Tyhee Lake campground and the nearby Aldermere Trail on Sept 2 due to increased bear activity observed in the area.
Bear encounters typically increase at this time of year as food sources dwindle and bears prepare for hibernation, prompting them to draw nearer to populated areas.
Previously, Parks closed the Aldermere Trail on Sept 1, though the day-use and boat launch area remain open as these areas have seen lower bear activity.
The closure will likely remain in effect for the rest of the season, typically until the end of Sept, given current safety concerns.
Nevertheless, Parks is urging users to engage in bear aware practices, and the Conservation Officer Service asks the public to report sightings via the RAPP line toll-free at 1-877-952-7277.
