Two Gardaí Hospitalised After Processing Vape Products
Both male members remain in hospital under medical assessment as An Garda Síochána launches an internal probe and deep cleans the station.
Edenderry Garda Station remains closed following an incident on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, where two Garda were hospitalized after falling ill while processing seized vapes. Policing services have been transferred to Tullamore Garda Station, some 35km away.
The two members became unwell while processing vapes seized from a commercial premises during an ongoing investigation. Investigators are exploring whether fumes from THC oil leaks or lithium battery faults released harmful substances.
Both members are currently in hospital under medical assessment, with one member understood to be in a more serious condition while the second member's condition is believed to be less severe.
An Garda Síochána is providing "welfare support" to the two members and their families as the station undergoes "specialist deep cleaning." Staff remain subject to "medical assessments" during recovery.
Pending further examination and deep cleaning, Edenderry Garda Station remains closed while an internal probe is launched. Officials do not suspect any sinister motive behind the incident.
