Two dead, one injured in drowning tragedy
Emergency services responded to a drowning incident involving three swimmers; two men died and a woman was hospitalized in serious condition, police said.
- On Sunday, emergency services were called to John Locke Place in Glenniffer at about 6.45pm after reports of people struggling in the water north of Bellingen on the NSW Mid North Coast.
- Police said three people — two men and a woman aged in their 30s — began struggling soon after entering the Never Never River while swimming.
- Rescuers pulled victims from the river, but two men could not be revived and died at the scene, while a woman was treated and sent to Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
- Police have established a crime scene as part of their investigation and said a report will be prepared for the coroner.
- Reports differ on the victims' conditions, with one account saying a woman was in a serious condition at Coffs Harbour Health Campus, while another reports a 31-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man with minor injuries remained stable.
