Two days before Bihar SIR deadline, 15 lakh yet to submit enumeration forms, one lakh untraceable: ECI
BIHAR, INDIA, JUL 23 – The Election Commission said 98.01% of Bihar voters have been covered in the revision, with 15 lakh forms pending and 1 lakh voters untraceable before the August 1 draft roll publication.
- On July 24, 2025, the Election Commission of India announced that the comprehensive voter list update in Bihar is in progress, with the draft version scheduled for release on August 1.
- This process started June 25 to update and purge rolls before the July 25 form submission deadline, with 15 lakh voters yet to submit forms and one lakh untraceable.
- Officials have sent SMS reminders to electors and deployed 100,000 Booth Level Officers and 150,000 agents to visit households and assist voters.
- The Commission noted that 20 lakh voters have passed away, 28 lakh have moved away permanently, and 7 lakh are registered in multiple locations, achieving coverage of more than 98% of eligible electors.
- After the draft publication on August 1, objections can be filed until September 1, ensuring no names are removed without due process amid opposition concerns.
