Two Conservative MPs demand meeting with chief treaty negotiators
Aaron Gunn and Ellis Ross want clarity on how the talks could affect private property rights, homeowners and businesses, they said.
North Island, Powell River MP Aaron Gunn and Skeena, Bulkley Valley MP Ellis Ross requested a briefing from chief federal and provincial treaty negotiators regarding ongoing discussions with Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nations.
Gunn and Ross emphasize that British Columbians deserve certainty regarding private property rights protection, citing concerns that negotiations lack sufficient public accountability in their Facebook-posted letter.
Frank Osendarp and Doug Waddell negotiate on behalf of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, while Mark Lofthouse and Heinz Dyck represent the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
Accordingly, the Two MPs requested the opportunity for a briefing at the negotiators' earliest convenience, offering to accommodate schedules by arranging a meeting in person or virtually.
There is considerable public interest in how these negotiations may affect broader economic certainty, as the letter stresses that elected representatives need clear understanding of how such matters are being considered.
