Two charged with attempted murder
French police say David Cao faces attempted murder and other charges after allegedly attacking his partner with a saucepan and boiling water.
On July 28, Sydney banker David Cao allegedly attacked his partner at a luxury hotel in Nazelles-N, France, leading to attempted murder charges after his arrest 36 hours later near the Belgian border.
The couple checked into a boutique hotel for a European holiday intended to culminate at World Pride Amsterdam, but the trip ended abruptly when hotel staff discovered Cao's partner critically injured and alone.
Prosecutors allege Cao struck his partner with a hot saucepan and poured boiling water over his body, with French media reporting additional charges including kidnapping, theft, torture, and acts of barbarity.
Authorities arrested Cao in Lille after he allegedly fled the hotel in a rental car, traveling through Rouen and Paris toward the Belgian border during the 36-hour manhunt.
Cao remains in custody awaiting trial following his termination from ING, while The Department of Foreign Affairs provides consular assistance to his recovering partner.
