Twins Place Pitcher Joe Ryan on Injured List and Call up Shortstop Prospect Kaelen Culpepper
The first-round pick is expected to debut after the Twins left shortstop unsettled ahead of the deadline, MLB Pipeline said.
The Minnesota Twins are expected to call up top prospect Kaelen Culpepper to make his major league debut during a three-game series in Milwaukee starting Friday.
A 2024 first-round pick, Culpepper is considered among the top 50 prospects in Major League Baseball and was the Twins' No. 2 prospect behind teammate Walker Jenkins.
To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins placed starting pitcher Joe Ryan on the 15-day injured list with a glute strain and designated right-handed pitcher Taylor Rashi for assignment.
Shortstop has been a revolving door for the Twins this season; after Brooks Lee moved to third base, the team utilized Tristan Gray and Ryan Kreidler at the position.
Two separate stints on the injured list for a glute injury slowed Culpepper's path to the majors, though manager Derek Shelton indicated player readiness ultimately dictates call-up timing.
