Singapore’s foreign ministry is helping affected nationals as Nepal and Chinese authorities search for the missing and warn the death toll may rise.
- On Thursday, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong extended condolences for the Nepal-China border floods, confirming nine Singaporeans are missing among 1,500 people unaccounted for after Wednesday's disaster.
- A wall of mud and rock collapsed into a Himalayan river, triggering catastrophic floods that killed at least 165 people and left 826 missing in Nepal, including nearly 600 foreigners.
- Rescuers use helicopters to search for survivors and drop emergency supplies to thousands cut off in the rugged mountainous region; The Nepal Tourism Board reported 644 people missing in Rasuwa.
- Officials advised Singaporeans to avoid flood-affected areas and stay away from rivers and bridges, as The Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates with local authorities to provide consular assistance.
- Police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle said, "This will go up, as we have resumed the search and more bodies are expected to be recovered," as recovery efforts continue.
