Turkey foreign minister to attend Trump's Board of Peace meeting in Washington
Pakistan reiterates support for Palestine and excludes Israel recognition while joining the US-led Board of Peace ahead of the inaugural Washington meeting tomorrow.
- On Wednesday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Pakistan will not recognise Israel, calling it `not on the cards at all` ahead of the Board of Peace meeting in Washington on February 19.
- Discussing troop contributions, Asif said Palestine is `a cause that is very close to our hearts` and highlighted Pakistan's support on international forums, depending on peace force terms.
- Turning to regional security, he alleged that Pakistan's military decimated a May 2025 Indian invasion attempt and accused Delhi and Kabul of supporting terrorist outfits, with the Afghan Taliban acknowledging but not formalising TTP's presence.
- On military options, he said Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif `always has that option and we can exercise that option`, asserting Pakistan could strike into Afghanistan if terrorists operate from Afghan soil and stating participation in a peace force depends on terms of reference.
- Responding to normalisation trends, he said Pakistan might consider recognition only after a `total paradigm shift` and establishment of two states, as per the France 24 interview.
