Tunisia sentences prominent opposition figure Abir Moussi to two years in prison
TUNIS (Reuters) -A Tunisian court sentenced Abir Moussi, a prominent opponent of Tunisian President Kais Saied, to two years in prison on Thursday for criticizing the electoral commission, her lawyer told Reuters.
In detention since October 2023, the leader of the Parti destourien libre, a virulent critic of President Kais Saïed and the Islamists of Ennahdha, had called into question the independent higher body for the elections in 2022.
The Tunisian political opponent Abir Moussi, president of the Parti destourien libre (PDL), was sentenced on Thursday 12 June to two years in prison by the criminal division of the Tunis court of first instance. This judgement comes in the context of a case of defamation opposed to the Independent High Electoral Mechanism (ISIE).
