TEHRAN - The International Criminal Court (ICC) was established by the Rome Statute, a multilateral treaty adopted on 17 July 1998 in Rome, Italy. The Rome Statute entered into force on 1 July 2002, after 60 countries ratified it, and the court officially began operating on that date.
DIRECTOR: I express my full support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) in discharging its high functions in the administration of international criminal justice in accordance with International Law, International Humanitarian Law and its founding Statute.
The ICC's chief prosecutor, already under US sanctions for his role in issuing Netanyahu's arrest warrant, now faces the possibility of being removed. If member states do not stand up for the independence of the judiciary now, they may never get another chance
