The establishment of this new academy also comes in a period of accelerated development of the new American space program. NASA continues its 'Artemis' program and preparations for new human missions to the Moon, while the US is simultaneously developing plans for future missions to Mars.
On August 28, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the United States Space Academy during a visit to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
