- Armed with a.357 Magnum, the suspect shot one Guard member and fired multiple times at the second; both Beckstrom and Wolfe had been sworn in less than 24 hours before the high-visibility patrol near 17th and I streets.
- Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Trump asked to add 500 Guard members after the shooting, and federal prosecutors filed charges including three counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
