Trump says GOP ‘entitled’ to 5 more House seats in Texas
TEXAS, AUG 5 – Texas Republicans aim to gain five additional U.S. House seats through redistricting despite Democratic lawmakers breaking quorum and facing fines, arrests, and removal threats.
- At a special legislative session, Texas lawmakers initiated a mid-decade redistricting process to give Republicans five extra U.S. House seats.
- To prevent the vote, Democratic state representatives left Texas, traveling to Illinois, New York and Massachusetts to break quorum and block the redistricting vote.
- Under Texas House rules, legislators face a $500 fine per day, and House Speaker Dustin Burrows signed civil arrest warrants for more than 50 absent Democrats.
