By KONSTANTIN TOROPIN WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military has deployed an unusually large contingent in the Caribbean Sea and the waters off the coast of Venezuela since mid-year, when President Donald Trump’s government began moving assets into the region for counter-narcotics operations. Overall, U.S. Southern Command says there are about 15,000 troops operating in the area, in the largest military deployment in the area in generations.
