Trump says the US should control the Strait of Hormuz and get paid for it
Trump said the United States would run the Strait of Hormuz and seek reimbursement as Iran keeps the waterway closed and oil prices rise.
On Monday, President Donald Trump said the United States would take over the Strait of Hormuz and should be reimbursed for controlling the vital waterway, calling it the "guardian angel of the strait."
After announcing the waterway's closure on Saturday following what it described as an unauthorized transit, Iran said on Sunday that passage remained suspended. The Revolutionary Guards warned that "continued interference could lead to greater incidents in the global oil and gas sector."
The United States continued strikes for a second day in southwestern Iran, hitting targets near Abadan, Kuwait, and Iraq. Iranian media reported two deaths and three wounded in strikes on "three different locations" in Khuzestan province.
Oil prices jumped 4.5% in Asian trading as markets feared supply disruptions. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that mediators from Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman are working to prevent further escalation.
Military exchanges between the foes continue, complicating efforts to salvage the interim peace deal. US Central Command maintains the strait remains open to lawful transit, contradicting Iran's blockade claims.
The United States of America is likely to take control of the Strait of Ormous and intends to be paid for the safe passage of ships through it and has announced Donald Trump.
