Trump Hails Tinubu's Fight Against Anti-Christian Violence
Trump said U.S. forces are helping train Nigerian troops and intelligence sharing has deepened under a 2026 defense roadmap.
On Wednesday, United States President Donald Trump released a letter praising President Bola Tinubu for his "decisive leadership" in addressing security challenges and protecting Christian communities in Nigeria.
This commendation follows the historic US-Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap, which enables United States Special Operations Forces to equip the Armed Forces of Nigeria with skills and intelligence to combat terrorism.
Last week, United States Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Frank Garcia visited Abuja, where he met senior government officials and pledged to strengthen security cooperation between Washington and the Nigerian government.
A highlight of this collaboration was a coordinated May 16 attack on ISIS hideouts in the Lake Chad area, resulting in the death of top leader Abubakar Al-Minoki and many of his lieutenants.
Political critics continue to challenge the administration's performance despite the security focus; Timi Frank alleged the government has become "synonymous with fraud," even as the Joint Working Group pursues anti-terrorism goals.
