- The Director of the Office of Personnel Management is responsible for implementing the order, which states agency heads retain authority to keep offices open for national security, defense or other urgent public need, and treats these days like federal holidays for pay and leave regulations.
- During Trump's first term, he granted Christmas Eve off in 2018, 2019, and 2020, while Obama granted only the day after Christmas in 2014.
- Florida officials say Florida state workers remain expected to work despite the federal order, and state law bars Gov. Ron DeSantis from extending extra paid days to Other Personal Services workers.
- There is no guarantee presidents will grant extra days around Christmas, though many have done so in recent years, and former President George W. Bush gave Dec. 24 off in 2007.
