Tropical Storm Surigae enters PAR, brings rain over parts of Mindanao
Queenie is forecast to strengthen as PAGASA warns of rain in Mindanao and rough seas along northern Luzon seaboards.
- On Thursday, Tropical Storm Queenie entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility , with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecasting intensification into a typhoon by Sunday, September 27.
- Queenie is the 17th tropical cyclone to enter the PAR this year, moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour as of 4 p.m. yesterday while located 1,205 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.
- While the storm will not make landfall, its trough is bringing rain to Mindanao and the Davao region; Weather Division Chief Juanito Galang noted "Ito 'yung mga afternoon or evening thunderstorms so medyo short duration pero may malalakas na pag-ulan na kasama."
- PAGASA expects the system to maintain its strength until Friday before reaching typhoon strength east of Taiwan by Sunday, September 27, and exiting PAR next week.
- The Philippines is in the tail-end of the Habagat season, which may end soon; weather forecaster John Manalo said "Yung PAGASA ng termination ng southwest monsoon or Habagat sa susunod na dalawang linggo.
