A tropical storm has formed in Atlantic, but it’s expected to move away from the coast
ATLANTIC OCEAN BASIN, AUG 4 – Tropical Storm Dexter, the fourth named storm of 2025, is expected to stay offshore while the National Hurricane Center monitors two other disturbances with up to 70% development chance.
- Forecasters reported that on Sunday night, Tropical Storm Dexter formed off the North Carolina coast, and two other Atlantic areas are under watch.
- Experts say the Atlantic is now ramping up as hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, following one of the quietest starts in 16 years.
- The National Hurricane Center advisory shows that, as of the 11 p.m. advisory, it was located about 300 miles west-northwest of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph.
- Elevated rip current risk affects East Coast beaches, while no impacts are expected in North Carolina but swells may occur near Bermuda.
- Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center notes a tropical wave expected off Africa’s west coast by late tomorrow has about a 40% chance of development over the next seven days.
