Tropical Downpours Drench Florida as Invest 93L Moves Across State. Here’s What to Expect
FLORIDA, JUL 16 – The tropical disturbance has a 40% chance of forming into a tropical depression or storm while bringing heavy rain and flash flooding risks across Gulf Coast states, forecasters said.
- Heavy rain and storms began early Monday across South Florida as a low-pressure area moved over the state, bringing elevated rain chances for several days.
- This weather pattern developed due to a low-pressure disturbance tracked by the National Hurricane Center, which may form into a tropical system as it moves westward across Florida.
- Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected Sunday through Tuesday, with heavy rain most intense Monday afternoon to late evening, increasing flooding risk in low-lying urban areas.
- The system has about a 20% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next seven days but nearly zero chance within 48 hours, and if named, it would be called Tropical Storm Dexter.
- Forecasters will continue monitoring the disturbance as it is forecast to bring heavy rain and possible localized flooding across Florida and nearby Gulf coasts through mid to late this week.
