Tropical Storm Alvin May Form Off Mexico's Coast in the Eastern Pacific, NHC Says
- The National Hurricane Center indicated that a tropical depression may develop this week several hundred miles south of Mexico’s southwestern shore and could be named Tropical Storm Alvin if it strengthens.
- A large low-pressure system is generating clusters of showers and thunderstorms, with the surrounding environment supportive of continued strengthening.
- The system, known as Invest 90-E, is traveling west-northwest at about 10 mph and is expected to develop into a tropical depression or stronger sometime in the next two days.
- Meteorologist Ari Sarsalari noted that the storm is likely to form a cohesive structure, but cooler ocean temperatures and strong wind shear are expected to keep its effects mostly away from land.
- If the system strengthens into a tropical storm, it would be the first named storm of the 2025 Eastern Pacific season, with limited expected effects on land.
