Triumphant Throws: Sumit Antil Leads India to Glory at World Para Athletics
Sumit Antil led India's podium sweeps across multiple events with a 69.25m javelin throw, continuing his top form ahead of the Asian Para Games, officials said.
- At the World Para Athletics meet, Sumit Antil, the javelin thrower and back-to-back Paralympic gold medallist, clinched the men's javelin with a 69.25m throw, exceeding his expectations of around 67-68m.
- Describing his schedule, Antil said he participates in multiple tournaments as part of an off-season loading phase to find conditions and refine performance without changing technique.
- India posted multiple podium sweeps, including the men's 400m T13 with Subodh Bhatt, Priyanshu Kaushik and Avnil Kumar and the wheelchair 400m T53/T54 with Manojkumar Sabapathi, Anil Kumar and Manikandan Jothi.
- Boosted by the results, Antil said he and his team are happy and he will try to perform well in upcoming competitions.
- Looking ahead, Sumit Antil said he is targeting the Asian Para Games later this year in Japan with a 75m target, adding it depends on finding the right conditions where the throw falls perfectly.
