Trio of star-studded World Cup opening ceremonies in US, Canada and Mexico aim to showcase unity
Marco Balich said the shows will mix speeches, flags and 30 minutes of music to celebrate soccer and each host nation’s identity.
The 2026 World Cup will feature three star-studded opening ceremonies across Mexico, Canada, and the United States, orchestrated by Italian producer Marco Balich, who recently led the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
Balich designed the ceremonies around "the celebration of sports, the passion for soccer, symbolized by the cup itself," with each show narrating this theme through three cultural perspectives using local design aesthetics.
Festivities launch June 11 in Mexico City with Mañé, J Balvin, and Tyla, continue June 12 in Toronto with Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé, and later that day Los Angeles Stadium features Katy Perry, LISA, Rema, Anitta, and Future.
Each 30-minute musical show occurs about 90 minutes before kickoff following a 25-minute player warm-up, with dedicated teams of 260 to 300 individuals executing productions in each city.
Balich called the joint hosting a "very good sign" for peaceful cooperation, noting that Italy's absence from its third consecutive World Cup enabled him to celebrate each host country impartially while producing two of the world's largest sports ceremonies this year.
The World Cup will feature an unprecedented trio of star-filled opening ceremonies in the host countries United States, Canada and Mexico, created by the Italian producer behind the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics this year.
