Rodman’s Brace and Late Winner Propels Washington over Houston 2-1 as NWSL Returns
Rodman’s stoppage-time goal completed a brace as Washington earned three points and moved into second place in the NWSL standings.
On Friday, July 3, 2026, the Washington Spirit defeated the Houston Dash 2-1 at Audi Field, with forward Trinity Rodman scoring both goals, including a decisive stoppage-time winner.
Following a month-long break for the 2026 Men's World Cup, the NWSL returned to play as an extreme heat wave gripped the East Coast with a heat index of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Rodman broke the scoreless deadlock in the 50th minute off a Leicy Santos assist before Houston rookie Kate Faasse equalized in the 89th minute, after which Rodman was caught saying "What the f---" in disbelief.
Across the NWSL, the Kansas City Current downed the Denver Summit 3-0 and Angel City topped the Orlando Pride 2-0, while the Spirit's victory moved them into second place in the standings.
The Spirit return to action on July 11, 2026, traveling to face the North Carolina Courage at First Horizon Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
