Chilling Platelets Could Considerably Expand Supply to Patients

The 1,000-person trial found refrigerated platelets controlled bleeding as well as standard units, but they did not reduce re-exploration or transfusion needs.

Research led by the University of Pittsburgh shows refrigerating platelets before use in patients could expand their lifespan threefold without causing any loss in function.
