Report: Wolves Sign Former First-Round Pick Trey Lyles
Minnesota adds a veteran stretch four who shot 42.1% from 3-point range in Europe and gives the Wolves depth at power forward.
On Friday, the Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a one-year deal with veteran forward Trey Lyles, The Athletic reported.
Lyles, a 10-year NBA veteran, previously played two seasons for Timberwolves basketball boss Tim Connelly in Denver before spending last season overseas for Real Madrid.
The 6-foot-9 forward averaged nearly 13 points while shooting 45.9 percent from deep in EuroLeague play, and averaged 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds at 42.0 percent overall during his 2024-25 campaign.
This marks Minnesota's 12th agreed-to signing with potential for 14 rostered players, though Lyles likely won't start and instead provides necessary depth at power forward.
The Timberwolves maintain reported interest in LeBron James and Rui Hachimura as starting power forwards; Rich Paul, LeBron's agent, confirmed Minnesota is among ten teams pursuing the 42-year-old.
Trey Lyles, according to journalist Michael Scotto, will continue his career with the Timberwolves, putting an end to the scenarios that wanted him close to Panathinaikos.
