GM Recalls 40,000 Chevrolet Vehicles over Brake Issue
- BMW is recalling over 70,000 electric vehicles in the U.S. across multiple 2022-2025 models due to a software issue that may cause the motor responsible for propulsion to stop functioning suddenly.
- BMW identified the cause as a safety mechanism intended to prevent electrical shorts, initially becoming aware of the problem in 2021 when faults were found in fewer than 1% of vehicles.
- Owners can receive a free over-the-air software update at dealerships, and the recall covers models like the i4, i5, i7, and iX without affecting power-assisted steering or braking.
- Separately, General Motors recalled over 40,000 Chevrolet Blazer EVs due to a rear parking brake wiring harness defect that may cause unintended brake activation, potentially leading to a crash.
- NHTSA announced that GM dealers will inspect and, if needed, reroute wiring harnesses with anti-abrasive tape free of charge, with owner notifications expected by August 11 and no accidents reported so far.
