One Dead and Another Injured After Train Strikes Semi-Truck in Iowa
A semi-truck collision caused a freight train derailment, resulting in one fatality, one serious injury, and the blocking of Highway 21.
On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, a semi-truck collided with an Iowa Interstate Railroad train in Poweshiek County, Iowa, killing one person and seriously injuring another near Victor in the 3900 block of Highway 21.
The collision caused two locomotives and 17 rail cars to derail, with Poweshiek County Sheriff Matt Maschmann reporting the rails sustained "significant damage" to the railroad infrastructure.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla confirmed no hazardous materials spilled, while authorities closed Highway 21 between Highway 6 and Old 6 Road for an "extended period" during investigation.
Carrying a John Deere tractor, the semi-truck prompted extensive cleanup operations to clear wreckage and repair damaged infrastructure as crews worked at the scene.
Multiple agencies, including the Victor Fire Department and East Poweshiek Ambulance, responded to the scene, with Sheriff Maschmann noting the derailment will have a "pretty big impact" for the local community.
