Trail of broken glass: Campbell River RCMP probe multi-day vandalism spree
A downtown business owner says repeated damage and thefts are raising costs, while police review video and the city offers security grants.
Downtown Campbell River businesses are facing a surge in vandalism and theft, with Onestop Solution owner Kumar reporting his front door glass was smashed over the weekend.
At least four businesses suffered broken windows between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m. on Aug. 14, prompting Campbell River RCMP to investigate whether these incidents are connected.
While the City's Downtown Renewal Grant Program offers to reimburse 50 percent of repair costs, insurance premiums rise with every claim, forcing owners like Kumar to cover deductibles.
Earlier this week, vandals broke into Linda's Nails, stealing items including a debit machine, as Campbell River RCMP encourages anyone witnessing suspicious activity to call 286-6221.
Kumar suggested regular security patrols during early morning hours could deter future vandalism, describing the incidents as "incredibly devastating" while remaining on edge and monitoring surveillance footage.
