Boy, 13, Dies After Blackpool House Fire as E-Bike Believed to Blame
Police say the fire that killed Coby Keogh and injured four others is under investigation, with an e-bike currently believed to be the cause.
On Sunday, July 5, 13-year-old Coby Keogh died in hospital from injuries sustained in a house fire on Redcar Road in Blackpool on Tuesday, June 30.
Lancashire Police believe an e-bike sparked the blaze, confirming there is no third-party involvement in the incident. A 19-year-old man, Joey Gregory, also suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
Three other occupants of the property suffered minor injuries during the blaze. Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service continue their joint investigation into the fire's cause.
A file is being prepared for HM Coroner regarding Coby's death. Lancashire Police stated, "Our thoughts are with Coby's loved ones at this time," as officers provide specialized support to the family.
Police urge anyone with information to contact 101, quoting log 0451 of June 30. Officials have released guidance on safe e-bike charging to prevent similar incidents.
