Yokozuna Hoshoryu appeared to be hurt and limped from the ring following an upset loss to komusubi Takayasu as the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament opened Sunday with two of the sport's brightest stars already missing through injury.
Yokozuna Toyoshoryu (Tatsunami stable) of the Grand Sumo Tournament submitted a notice of withdrawal to the Japan Sumo Association on May 11th, the second day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament. He injured his right hamstring in his bout against Komusubi Takayasu (Tagonoura stable) on the first day. His opponent on the second day, Makuuchi wrestler Fujinokawa (Ise no Umi stable), will win by default.
Yokozuna Toyoshoryu suffered a right hamstring injury in his match against Komusubi Takayasu on the first day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament, May 10th. It is believed that he injured himself when he collapsed to the ground after an overarm throw, with both his legs spreading apart.
