I was born in May 1945 (Showa 20) in what is now South Korea. The war ended in August, and I am part of the generation that has lived through 80 years since the end of the war. I grew up hearing many times from my now-deceased parents that they had evacuated with me as a baby and my four young siblings, with only the clothes on their backs.
