Teenage Talent Seixas Delighted After 'Marvellously Tough' Tour De France Stage
The 19-year-old French debutant moved to fourth overall and leads the best young rider standings by three seconds after a strong mountain stage.
- On Saturday, French teenage prodigy Paul Seixas finished third on the 155km Tour stage from Mulhouse to Le Markstein, moving into fourth place overall and snatching the white jersey from Spanish rider Juan Ayuso.
- Seixas has remained in the top 10 since the opening stage in Barcelona two weeks ago, gradually gaining seconds on rivals while pursuing a podium finish in Paris.
- Four-Time champion Tadej Pogacar attacked 1.5km from the summit, but Seixas emerged as the strongest contender after two-time former winner Jonas Vingegaard, dragging back the Dane to the finish.
- Seixas now sits 15 seconds behind Evenepoel in the general classification, saying, "It's a great pleasure to have the white jersey and to still be in the running for the podium."
- Sunday's 15th stage features a brutally tough climb to Plateau de Solaison, while Pogacar holds a four and a half minute lead, though he said remaining mountain stages suit Vingegaard.
