Since mid-April 2026, access to the Ballon d'Alsace by the Lake of Alfeld is forbidden to all traffic, both to cars and to bicycles, reports Alsace. Indeed, an important project launched by the municipality of Sewen previews the slaughter of about 900 trees in order to secure the departmental road 466, on the route of the Tour de France expected in the region in July.
