Bonnie Tyler in Induced Coma After Emergency Surgery in Portugal
Singer Bonnie Tyler has been placed in an induced coma by doctors to aid her recovery following emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal, manager Matt Davis announced Thursday evening.
The 74-year-old Grammy nominee was initially hospitalized on Wednesday for the procedure, though representatives had previously stated the surgery went well and she was recuperating.
Known for hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart," Tyler has released 18 studio albums throughout her career and was previously honored as a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
Whether Tyler will perform at upcoming engagements remains unclear, including scheduled appearances at the SummerLUST Music Festival in Gaxaq, Malta, on May 22, and in Wiesmoor, Germany, on May 30.
Tyler previously claimed to be healthy in her older age, telling Hello! Magazine, "I'm fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I'm really enjoying doing the shows.
