Toronto Police Investigate North York Shooting That Killed 27-Year-Old Man
Police say the victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition before he died, and investigators are seeking dashcam or surveillance footage.
On Friday night, 27-year-old Hussein Elmi was fatally shot near Sheppard Avenue West and Magellan Drive in North York. Toronto Police responded around 10:15 p.m., transporting Elmi to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators report three suspects arrived in a dark-coloured vehicle and were 'out on foot' during the shooting, then fled. Homicide Det.-Sgt. Jason Davis stated there is no indication the victim had any interaction with the assailants.
Elmi's death marks Toronto's 11th homicide this year. Police are investigating whether this incident connects to reports of gunshots at a townhouse complex on Wednesday in the same neighbourhood.
Officers are 'out in full force' to ease community concerns while canvassing for video evidence. Police have increased patrols in the area following another shooting last week and remain highly visible.
'This 27-year-old man tragically lost his life last night and every little bit of information matters,' Davis said. Authorities urge anyone with dashcam footage or witness accounts to contact the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.
