Lee Fairclough Enters Ontario Liberal Leadership Race
Fairclough says she will run on affordability, health care and education as the Ontario Liberals choose a new leader after Bonnie Crombie’s resignation.
On Friday, Etobicoke-Lakeshore MPP Lee Fairclough officially launched her bid to lead the Ontario Liberal Party. The former hospital executive announced her candidacy with a platform prioritizing affordability, healthcare reform, and education improvements.
Before entering politics, Fairclough held executive roles at St. Mary's and CAMH. She secured her seat last year by unseating Progressive Conservative Christine Hogarth with over 4,000 votes, following a narrow loss in 2022.
Fairclough vowed to "fight for democracy" by restoring local decision-making and curbing what she calls the "concentration of power in the Premier's Office." She also proposes repealing Bill 97 to increase government transparency.
She joins Dylan Marando in the contest to replace former leader Bonnie Crombie, who resigned earlier this year. Other potential candidates, including Nate Erskine-Smith and Adil Shamji, are currently weighing leadership bids.
